Accommodation includes a Marrakech riad, a rural guesthouse near Ait Ben Haddou, a comfortable desert camp, a guesthouse near Tafraoute and riad accommodation in Essaouira.

ItineraryShim

Day 1
Arrive in Marrakech and meet the group at the riad around 2pm. Begin exploring the medina’s alleyways before visiting the Museum of Photography for inspiration. Continue to a rooftop viewpoint overlooking the city and distant Atlas Mountains. At sunset, photograph Jemaa el-Fna before enjoying a Moroccan dinner and tour briefing. Overnight in a Marrakech riad.

Day 2
Depart Marrakech and cross the High Atlas Mountains, stopping to photograph changing landscapes and mountain layers. Visit Telouet Kasbah around midday, exploring its architecture and details. Continue through the Ounila Valley towards Tamdaght, photographing rural scenery along the way. Capture evening light around the kasbah area before settling into a rural guesthouse near Ait Ben Haddou.

Day 3
Start with sunrise photography at Ait Ben Haddou before beginning the journey south towards Erg Chigaga. After a long drive with selected stops, reach the remote dunes and settle into camp. Later, climb higher ground for sweeping views across the sand sea. Photograph changing colours through sunset before returning to camp. Overnight at the fixed desert camp.

Day 4
Rise before dawn for night-sky and sunrise photography among the dunes. The dark desert setting offers excellent opportunities for astrophotography. During the day, relax, review images or optionally visit a nomad family settlement. In the afternoon, photograph dromedaries in the dunes before returning by camel in time for dinner. Overnight at Erg Chigaga camp.

Day 5
Enjoy another optional early-morning photography session close to camp. After breakfast, take time to review images and discuss techniques with the group. Following lunch, travel to a quieter dune location or the eastern edge of Erg Chigaga for fresh compositions. Photograph sunset in changing light before returning to camp. Final overnight in the Sahara.

Day 6
Leave the desert after breakfast and cross the landscapes of Iriqui National Park. Photograph Lake Iriqui’s salt flats and views towards the Madouar canyon area. Rejoin paved roads later in the day and continue west. A photography stop near Talbourte breaks the journey before arrival in the Ameln Valley. Overnight at a guesthouse near Tafraoute.

Day 7
Spend the day exploring the landscapes around Tafraoute and the Ameln Valley. Search for distinctive rock formations, textures and mountain compositions while keeping driving to a minimum. This less-photographed region offers opportunities for original images and creative exploration. During the afternoon, identify promising dawn locations for the following morning. Overnight near Tafraoute.

Day 8
Depart the Anti-Atlas Mountains and travel towards the Atlantic coast. Pass through varied scenery, including sections near Agadir and the Argan Biosphere. Arrive in Essaouira during the afternoon and settle into your riad within the medina. Use remaining daylight to familiarise yourself with the town and coastal atmosphere. Overnight in Essaouira.

Day 9
Spend the day exploring Essaouira on foot. Photograph whitewashed streets, colourful doorways, market scenes and architectural details throughout the medina. Visit the fishing port, known for its traditional blue boats, and capture maritime life. As evening approaches, photograph the coastline and remparts in changing light. Overnight in an Essaouira riad.

Day 10
Enjoy a final breakfast before departing Essaouira and travelling back to Marrakech. The transfer takes approximately three hours. Drop-off is available at Marrakech Airport or within the medina for travellers extending their stay. We recommend booking onward flights from early afternoon onwards. Tour ends in Marrakech.
