Day 1
Meet in Marrakech at 09:30 and begin your journey south in a private Toyota Land Cruiser. Cross the High Atlas Mountains via Morocco’s highest main road pass at 2,260 metres, passing valleys and traditional villages. Continue through Telouet and the beautiful Ounila Valley before exploring the Ait Ben Haddou UNESCO region. Overnight in a restored kasbah-style guest-house near Ait Ben Haddou.
Day 2
Travel through the outer Anti-Atlas landscapes via Tazenakht and Foum Zguid before leaving the tarmac behind. Enjoy an exciting off-road drive across Lake Iriqui’s dried salt flats and the dramatic Madouar canyon area. Arrive at Erg Chigaga in mid-afternoon for tea. Later, camel trek into the dunes, watch sunset from the high viewpoint and return to camp for dinner and traditional music.
Day 3
Spend a full leisure day among the Erg Chigaga dunes and surrounding desert landscapes. After breakfast, walk among the dunes, relax at camp or discuss activity options available in the area. Lunch is included today. You may visit a desert family settlement by 4×4 before returning for another sunset experience, dinner and a second night beneath canvas.
Day 4
Leave Erg Chigaga and drive off-road towards Mhamid El Ghizlane, where you rejoin the paved road. Continue north through Tamegroute and Zagora while following Morocco’s longest river valley (the Draa). The Draa Valley’s palm groves, old kasbahs and desert settlements provide changing scenery throughout the day. Overnight in a charming rural guest-house near Agdz among the palm groves.
Day 5
Begin the return journey to Marrakech through the Anti-Atlas Mountains. As the road gains elevation, enjoy views towards the High Atlas and the NOOR solar plant near Ouarzazate. Continue through mountain landscapes before crossing the High Atlas once more. Expect to arrive back in Marrakech by mid-afternoon, concluding your private desert adventure.
