This 10-day private journey connects northern Morocco with the Sahara desert and Marrakech, combining culture, history and varied landscapes. Beginning in Tangier, you travel south to Chefchaouen before continuing to Fes, one of Morocco’s significant Imperial cities. Day excursions introduce Volubilis, Moulay Idriss and Meknes before you cross the Middle Atlas towards the desert.

A private Toyota Land Cruiser or minivan with an English-speaking driver accompanies you throughout. Accommodation includes a charming riad in Chefchaouen, several nights in a traditional Fes riad, a desert camp (with private bathroom) at Erg Chebbi, a rural guest house in Skoura and riad accommodation in Marrakech.

The pace is generally moderate, with one longer driving day between Fes and the Sahara. Highlights include camel trekking, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, desert sunsets, kasbah visits and high mountain passes. Suitable for couples, families and friends, the tour is best enjoyed between September and June when temperatures are generally more comfortable.

ItineraryShim

Day 1 – Chefchaouen
Arrive at Tangier Airport by early afternoon or meet your driver in the city if arriving earlier. Travel south-east to Chefchaouen, nestled beneath the Rif Mountains. After checking into your riad, spend the afternoon exploring the blue-painted medina, quiet squares and local cafés at your own pace. Overnight in a riad in Chefchaouen.

Day 2 – Fes
Enjoy a relaxed morning discovering more of Chefchaouen’s winding lanes, artisan shops and mountain atmosphere. Early in the afternoon, depart for Fes with your private driver. Arrive later in the day and settle into your traditional riad within the historic medina. Overnight in Fes.

Day 3 – Volubilis and Meknes
Travel to Volubilis, home to Morocco’s best-preserved Roman ruins and remarkable mosaic floors. Continue to Moulay Idriss for free time and an optional lunch before visiting Meknes. Explore key monuments including Bab Mansour, the Royal Stables and granaries. Return to Fes in the late afternoon. Overnight in your riad.

Day 4 – Fes
Spend the day exploring Fes, including a guided morning walk through the UNESCO-listed medina. Discover historic craft quarters, traditional tanneries and important religious landmarks. Time permitting, enjoy panoramic views from outside the city walls later in the day. Overnight in Fes for your final evening there.

Day 5 – Sahara Desert
Depart early for the Sahara. Cross the Middle Atlas Mountains and cedar forest region before descending through the Ziz Valley and Tafilalt oasis landscapes. Meet your camel caravan near Merzouga and ride to camp at Erg Chebbi dunes in time for sunset. Alternatively, transfer by vehicle. Dinner, campfire and stargazing await. Overnight in the desert.

Day 6 – Skoura via Todra Gorge
Leave Erg Chebbi and journey west towards Skoura. Along the route, visit the impressive Todra Gorge and (time-permitting) Dades Gorge, known for dramatic rock formations and river scenery. Continue through southern Morocco’s oasis landscapes to Skoura. Check into a peaceful guest house surrounded by palm groves. Dinner and overnight in Skoura.

Day 7 – Marrakech via Ait Ben Haddou
Visit important southern kasbahs including Kasbah Amridil, UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou and historic Telouet Kasbah. Continue across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tichka Pass, passing Amazigh villages and changing landscapes. Arrive in Marrakech during the late afternoon and settle into your traditional riad. Overnight in Marrakech.

Day 8 – Marrakech
Join a guided morning walk through Marrakech’s medina. Afterwards, explore at your own pace. Optional activities include a Moroccan cookery class or traditional hammam experience. You may also visit Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Madrasa, Maison de la Photographie, Le Jardin Secret or Majorelle Garden. Overnight in Marrakech.

Day 9 – Marrakech
Enjoy a flexible day in Marrakech. Continue exploring museums, gardens and souks, or arrange an excursion outside the city with your driver. This final full day allows time for shopping, photography and discovering lesser-known corners of Marrakech before your departure. Overnight in your riad in the medina.

Day 10 – Departure day
After breakfast, transfer to Marrakech Airport for your departing flight. Alternatively, a transfer to Casablanca Airport can be arranged (at additional cost). Your private Morocco journey concludes today.

What transport is used on this tour?
You travel in a private Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 or comfortable minivan with an English-speaking driver. Private transport allows flexibility for photo stops, comfort breaks and sightseeing along the route. The same transport arrangement is provided from Tangier through to Marrakech, ensuring a consistent and relaxed travel experience.

How much luggage can I bring?
Standard holiday luggage is suitable for this tour. One suitcase and one smaller personal bag per traveller is generally recommended. Your luggage travels with the vehicle throughout the journey, while for the desert camp you may choose to carry only essential overnight items during the camel trek.

Breakfast is included daily. Evening meals are included on days 5 and 6, covering the desert camp and Skoura stay. Lunches and most evening meals are left flexible so you can choose where and what to eat. Please advise any dietary restrictions or allergies before travel.
